Getting Around Europe

null
There are several ways of getting around Europe; by plane, by train, by car and by public transportation within a city. Flying proves to be quicker cutting precious travel time and Europe has several low-fare carriers. But often times they are located in airports outside the city’s center, so make sure to factor in time and cost of getting from these airports to your destination. Europe has efficient train systems and you can purchase a multi-country pass or a point to point pass. Renting cars can be more economical compared to the above two but using the public transportation can be more efficient and economical with Europe’s excellent public transportation system.

Air Fare Fair

You may find it rather exhausting to book flights, arranged schedules and look for the best price for your European destination trip but it can pay off. Jessica Labrencis mentioned in her article, Fifteen Ways to cut your European Travel Costs, that to save on European trips you need to book an open-jaw flight and you should be diligent in comparing fares. When planning to visit two countries in Europe, an open-jaw flight would mean booking a flight that arrives in one city and departs from another. This will save you the hassle of returning to the city you arrive at for your return flight.

Out of Season

According to Jessica Labrencis’ article entitled Fifteen Ways to cut your European travel costs (www.smartertravel.com) , travelling in off season is the best way, she even mentioned hands down, to save on your European flights. Less expensive flights can be expected during the months of November through February. These are the times wherein the weather turns cold and gray and these are the times when fares drop as compared to spring, summer or fall. There are certain travel “dead periods” during off season such as weeks after thanksgiving but before Christmas and a week following New Years day. With these periods you may be able to save more.

Many people love to travel. If asked about their dreams, most people would have travel included in it. However, for every travel there is a hefty price tag attached to it. And a great way to travel is to explore Europe, but how do we cut the cost? I was browsing the internet and I stumbled upon the website www.smartertravel.com wherein they featured an article dated April 10, 2006 by Jessica Labrencis entitled Fifteen Ways to cut your Europe travel costs. In the next entries, we will be discussing those helpful 15’s as we plan our European destination travels.

Other Must Tries

Aside from the great culture, history, food, and scenery, some of the things we would not want to leave out when it comes to Europe are the beach, fashion, and entertainment. When it comes to the beach, they say that nothing beats the beaches of Barcelona, Spain, because they have a summery weather 11 months in a year. When it comes to fashion and shopping, Paris is best-known, where the most awaited fashion shows, like that in the movie “The Devil Wears Prada,” take place. When it comes to entertainment, they say Glasgow, Scotland, is the best. The jazz festival, the comedy festival, and the West End Festival are some of the world’s most awaited shows.

The Love and Faith

A partner, a proposal, and a prayer. Europe is also best-known for its romantic and faith-filled cities: 1) Paris is known as the city of light and love. The restaurant on top of the tower, if your budget allows, is a great place for a date or a proposal. 2) The Westminster Abbey one of the most famous churches in the world, every Coronation took place here since 1066. It is a place of worship and the final resting place for kings, poets, musicians, scientists, and warriors. 3) The Vatican City in Rome is a great place to visit the pope, the Sistine chapel’s, which has Michael Angelo’s painting on the ceiling, and St. Peter’s Basilica.

Different Experiences

In Europe, food is a must try! Most of the gourmet food we have today is from them. Because of an article I read, Snowland’s Igloo restaurant has become one of my dream destinations during my lifetime. It is a freezing restaurant at Helsinki, Finland, where the tables are made of ice, they serve exotic food, and they also have an Arctic Disco. Another place that I’m curious of is the City of Venice. They say that it is a grand city of waterways, small islands, and grandeur architecture. It is car-free city, making the waterbuses and passing by the Grand Canal a would-be amazing experience.

The Culture and History

Europe is the ultimate dream travel destination. Its history and culture is so rich, you get to have a feel of what you read about in books and of what you watch on TV. When we think of Europe, we are reminded of the Greek mythology in Greece, the Roman Empire in Rome, the Nazis in Germany, the Royal Family in England, the shipping industry from Scotland, the dark ages, the renaissance period, and many others. A place that offers a feel of history, a feel of what they say is cultured, and a feel of new experiences not found in your hometown.
